Aluminum Foil For Building Insulation Composites: A Key Material For High-Performance Energy Efficiency

2026-01-08

In modern building energy-saving systems, composite aluminum foil, with its superior physical and chemical properties, has become an indispensable core layer in high-efficiency thermal insulation solutions. It is not used independently, but rather combined with substrates such as PET film, non-woven fabric, kraft paper, or PE foam through advanced processes to form a multi-functional integrated material, collectively creating a "thermal barrier" for the building envelope.

Its thermal insulation performance is mainly achieved through three mechanisms:

 • High-efficiency Heat Reflection: The aluminum foil surface has a smoothness and infrared reflectivity of up to 97%, directly reflecting most of the radiant heat energy (such as summer solar radiation and winter indoor heat radiation), significantly reducing heat exchange.

 • Excellent Barrier Properties: Aluminum foil provides a nearly perfect barrier against water vapor and air, effectively preventing moisture condensation and performance degradation of insulation materials caused by water vapor penetration, while also enhancing building airtightness.

 • Auxiliary Heat Conduction Barrier: Although the aluminum foil itself is extremely thin and cannot independently block conductive heat, the composite structure formed with internal low-thermal conductivity materials (such as air layers and foam) can collaboratively block heat conduction paths.

Among numerous aluminum alloy grades, the 8011 alloy is the absolute mainstream in the field of building insulation. It achieves the best balance between strength, flexibility, corrosion resistance, and cost, ensuring the reliability of the material during processing, installation, and long-term use. However, for applications with special reflection or ductility requirements, the high-purity 1050 grade is the preferred choice.

In summary, building insulation composite aluminum foil is a key material for achieving ultra-low energy consumption targets in modern green buildings. Through efficient reflection and composite barrier mechanisms, it significantly improves the overall thermal performance of the building envelope, providing solid technical support for reducing building operating energy consumption and improving indoor environmental comfort.
